There’s nothing like live music under the stars on a warm summer night so the city of Statesboro is setting the stage for the first “Downtown Live” concert series. These free concerts will be held on East Main Street in front of the Bulloch County Courthouse so bring your chairs or blankets — and your dancing shoes.

Downtown Live will kick off on June 1 with The Tams. This Atlanta-based group has thrilled audiences for more than 50 years and is known for their blend of beach music and smooth soul. Their show is fun, fresh, exciting and appeals to audiences of all ages and musical tastes. The Tams have had several gold records and one platinum single.

The Grapevine Band will hit the stage downtown on June 29 with an interactive show that pays homage to the music of the 60s, 70s and 80s.  The 10-member group that originated in Macon features a unique horn section that brings soul to their Motown and classic rock covers. The Grapevine Band has collectively found their signature sound that offers something different and unique to their fans by keeping alive some of the best party music ever!

The Swingin’ Medallions will rock Statesboro on July 6 with their signature high-energy beach music style. A southern tradition since 1962, the band was made famous by their hit album “Double Shot of My Baby’s Love,” and the title track remains the signature song of the band. They have performed in thousands of venues where their diverse repertoire has made them popular with college audiences as well as more mature rock and rollers.

The final concert in the summer series will be on July 20 featuring Liquid Pleasure. This band has been bringing people to their feet for over five decades with crowd pleasing covers of modern groups like The Black Eyed Peas and Outkast to Motown staples like The Temptations and The Supremes.

All concerts will begin at 6 p.m. and are family friendly. Food trucks and beverage vendors will begin serving at 5 p.m. at a designated food court area plus downtown restaurants will be open so you can eat in or out. Don’t forget that you can also enjoy an adult beverage at the concert since open container is allowed in the downtown area.

“The city is excited about the summer concert series in downtown Statesboro.  The purpose is to offer more opportunities for citizens to enjoy the downtown area and to create activity and excitement in the center of the city,” said City Manager Charles Penny.  “This event brings life to the downtown after 5 p.m. and will bring business opportunities for the local restaurants and shops. The concert series provides the opportunity to help our community to know that downtown is a great place to live, work and play.”

The Downtown Live Statesboro Concert Series is presented by Bulloch Solutions and the city of Statesboro with the support of Visit Statesboro, the Downtown Statesboro Development Authority and the Averitt Center for the Arts. For more information, visit www.statesboroga.gov/downtownlive.
