Celebrating strong women

Wait…hold on…stop what you’re doing. You feel that? You smell that? Could it be…?

Pumpkin spice and cooler temperatures are well on their way as fall is underway in the Boro. What a welcome change! After months of living with the oppression of heat and this virus thing everyone is talking about, it’s so nice to see lower numbers…at least on the thermometer.

In this issue, we are celebrating women. We have stories about each of our history-making women on the Statesboro City Council, the first women to serve in those posts. They are “lady bosses,” and we were excited to get to know them better. You will be, too.

Our Everyday Hero this month is Catherine Tootle, who has come a long way, baby. And we love her story of strength and courage. You’ll enjoy reading it.

We are also featuring, as our cover story, some wonderful folks who stepped up and served the community and its children during the months that the schools were closed. We asked our readers which essential workers we should feature, and the people who made breakfast and lunch for several months for local children in need were the overwhelming choice. We were happy to oblige. And thank you to all who made that program work!

Enjoy this issue – and enjoy fall, y’all!
