Fill the cookie jar this Valentine’s Day
Some Kinda Good
val day cookies

Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly, and there’s no better way to share your love than with a big batch of homemade cookies. Bake up my easy Red and White Sugar Cookies and fill the cookie jar with a treat for the whole family. This recipe is also perfect for bagging up as a goodie for neighbors and friends, or sending with the kids to school to share as a snack with classmates.

As a middle-schooler, I remember the exciting feeling of being called to the front office on Valentine’s Day because my mom had sent me a surprise — a box of chocolates or a teddy bear with balloons. It filled my sixth grade heart with love and gratitude, and I knew my parents thought I was someone special. No matter how small, the thought really does count. Walking down the hall back to my class, valentines in hand, I smiled a little bigger, and stood a little taller.

In that same spirit, I hope you’ll make someone’s day special by sharing a gift from your kitchen. Cupid, draw back your baking sheets, and let your ovens go. Happy Valentine’s Day. Make it Some Kinda Good.

Red and White Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

●2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

●1 teaspoon baking powder

●1 teaspoon salt

●¾ cup brown sugar

●¾ cup granulated sugar

●2 sticks of unsalted butter, softened

●2 eggs

●2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract

●1 cup of red and white chips

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder and salt, and set aside. Using a stand mixer, cream butter and sugars, scraping the bowl to make sure everything is incorporated. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well until incorporated. Mix in vanilla. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the sugar mixture until incorporated. Fold in the red and white chips, careful not to overmix.

Spoon cookie dough onto an ungreased baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 - 14 minutes until golden brown around the edges and set in the center.
