The Music Scene
tunes on tap

We’ve all been waiting for this since the summer of 2019. Just before the virus made its appearance on the global scene, those of us who spend much time downtown were eagerly awaiting news about the former 40 East location. When we found out that the former bar manager and long-time favorite bartender Garrett Riggleman was helping to establish the new venue, the excitement leveled up exponentially.  An Indian restaurant in the Boro was a bit risky, but having Garrett made it less so. Owner AJ Jetwani is no slouch, either. His vision for Tandoor & Tap had downtown Statesboro abuzz. Together, despite setback after setback, they managed to bring to life a remarkable venue that fits flawlessly into Statesboro’s downtown. They’ve already bagged several awards including Most Fabulous New Business.

Since they opened their doors in August 2020, local musicians, myself perhaps most persistently, have been hounding Riggleman and Jetwani for news of when they would begin to host live music again. The expansive deck is the perfect spot for even very wary folks to enjoy music safely while appreciating the divine culinary offering.

“It’s different,” said one regular, “but if folks would give it a chance, they’d find out how good it is.” Another regular added, “the music on the deck is an excellent addition.”

So far, the venue has hosted Dan Larkin and José Lopez, and the venue is setting up Thursdays to be their night to host the local music scene downtown, complimenting Sugar Mag’s Wednesday night offering. The weather seems to be on their side, too, with temps that make outdoor dining the preferred choice of many.

For those who are more inclined to stay in at the bar, you can still enjoy the music while you enjoy the banter at the bar. Don’t forget to stay at the bar long enough to check out the bottoms-up style drafts on tap. For my part, I’m a fan of Masala Coffee when the temp drops just a little on the deck while enjoying some lively music from local artists.

But don’t take my word for it. Head over to Tandoor & Tap this Thursday and support the local music scene and enjoy our newest live music venue.
