Violins, visual art merge for Orchestral Visions

Art for both the ears and the eyes will be on display at the Statesboro Strings Spring Showcase on May 4 at 2 p.m. in the Emma Kelly Theater.

Students from the Statesboro Strings Program will be spotlighted in solo performances, accompanied on piano by Dr. Michael Braz. The Statesboro Chamber Orchestra will also be in concert, performing the first movement of Beethoven’s 6th Symphony and several movements from Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky. The event will also feature a live painting demonstration from local artist Bunyan Morris. He will also have several of his paintings in the lobby for sale. The showcase, sponsored by Orchid Asian Restaurant, is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted.

Orchestra musicians include Jessica Orvis (violin), Lissa Leege (viola), James Glass (bass), sisters Suyeon and Yeongseo Oh (both on violin), Glenn Haynes (cello), Nancy Derr (violin), Rebecca Goines (violin), Ruth Hook (violin), Abby Thompson (violin), Cameron Halaby (violin), Yubo Fu (violin), Benjamin Cork (violin), William Page (cello) and Brant Harlacher (cello).
